In the process, the mobile app has in fact done much more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a presence in over 120 cities and 15 countries, Careem has transformed transportation, enabling millions of trips in cities throughout the region, and creating a \u00a0steady stream of flexible, on-demand jobs\u2014over 1 million so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_149168\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-149168\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/endeavor.org\/content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/40.-Careem.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-149168\" src=\"http:\/\/endeavor.org\/content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/40.-Careem-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-149168\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abrar Hamed, Careem captain | Photo by Kieran Kesner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">True to their name\u2014which translates to \u201cgenerous\u201d in Arabic\u2014Careem doesn\u2019t just create job openings; it creates careers. Careem provides baseline training for all their drivers, whom they call \u201ccaptains,\u201d and offers ongoing professional development and career advancement opportunities. They use feedback from captains to evolve the product. And they offer health insurance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCareem makes me feel like my own boss, like I\u2019m an entrepreneur,\u201d said Abrar Hamed, who has been a Careem captain for six years. \u201cThey give me more business because I\u2019ve been with them so long. They treat me like a human\u2014like I\u2019m a partner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Careem has also made room for women where other companies haven\u2019t. In Saudi Arabia, where women have only recently been allowed to drive, Careem prioritized bringing women captains into their fleet. They not only created jobs that had previously not existed for women, but also greatly increased mobility for women with safe and reliable transit that does not depend on a male family member.
